Washington University women head back to the Final Four
The Washington University women are headed back to a familiar place in March, which the Final Four of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Bloomington, Ill. The Bears (27-2) defeated George Fox University 59-52 on Saturday night to win the Sectional championship at the Washington U. Field House. George Fox U. defeated Washington U. for the national championship last year.
Sophomore Claire Schaeperkoetter led the Bears with 16 points off the bench. Janice Evans and Zoe Unruh added 13 points each while Jaimie McFarlin had eight points and 11 rebounds.
Washington University will face Amherst (31-0) in one national semifinal on Friday at 5 p.m. The other semifinal will feature Hope College vs. the University of Rochester at 7 p.m. Washington U. defeated Amherst in the national semifinals last season.
Washington University is making its ninth appearance in the Final Four of the Division III Tournament under the guidance of head coach Nancy Fahey. The Bears have won four national championships.
