McKendree’s Eric Hobbie named a First Team NAIA All-American
Congratulations to McKendree University junior forward Eric Hobbie on being named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American First Team. A former standout at Vandalia (Ill.), the 6’6” Hobbie led the Bearcats to a 27-7 record and the regular-season and postseason championship of the American Midwest Conference and a berth in the NAIA national tournament in Kansas City.
Hobbie was also voted the AMC Player of the Year for his all-around excellence. He scored a game-high 32 points in the Bearcats’ 82-66 victory over Park College in the championship game of the AMC Tournament. As well as being a top all-around player, Hobbie is also one of the most dynamic athletes in NAIA college basketball.
Hobbie averaged 16.7 points and 6.6 rebounds a game with 52 steals, 60 assists and 43 blocked shots. He led the Bearcats with 74 3-pointers. Hobbie also shot 79 percent from the free-throw line, which also led the team. On top of that, Hobbie was always good for a crowd-pleasing slam dunk or two during the game.
A three-year starter for the Bearcats, Hobbie will enter his senior year in 2011 with 1,525 points in his career.
