Former Career Academy standout Jerome Jones to leave Missouri State

Former Miller Career Academy standout Jerome Jones will transfer from Missouri State University. The 6'5" Jones completed his freshman season for the Bears in 2010.

 A former Class 4 All-State selection, Jones played in 27 games for the Bears, scoing 1.2 points a game. He enjoyed a six-rebound performance against Evansville in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in St. Louis.

 As a senior at Career Academy, Jones led the Phoenix to its first ever Final Four berth in the Class 4 state tournament. He averaged 24 points a game to lead the Public High League in scoring. Jones enjoyed one memorable week in January of '09 when he scored 34 points in a 59-58 upset of eventual Class 4 state-champion St. Francis Borgia on Jan. 7. Just two days later, Jones erupted for 65 points in Miller's 115-111 five-overtime victory over PHL foe Gateway Tech.

 In Missouri State related news, redshirt freshman forward Michael Porter (Sikeston, Mo.) was injured in a single-car accident in Springfield on Thursday. According to the Springfield News-Leader, Porter suffered a serious injury to his hip, which required surgery on Thursday.

 Porter was a four-year starter and an All-State performer at Sikeston. He also played three years with the St. Louis Eagles during the summer. Porter missed virtually all of the 2010 season with a hamstring injury and was recently approved for a medical redshirt, which will give him four years of eligibility.
