Dennis Griffin hired as the new women's coach at Harris-Stowe
Dennis Griffin has been hired as the new head women's basketball coach at Harris-Stowe State University. Griffin, 38, has been involved in coaching girls basketball at the high school, college and summer club level for several years.
Griffin takes over for Wanda Nettles, who stepped down at the end of the 2010 season. The Hornets finished the season with a 2-27 record.
"I'm very excited about this new opportunity," Griffin said. "I look forward to bettering the program and helping to develop a winning attitude."
Griffin was a former high school varsity coach at Kingston High, a small school South of St. Louis. He was also an assistant coach at Webster University. Griffin spent several years coaching summer basketball, where he had some of the area's top players such as former Althoff and Saint Louis U. star Theresa Lisch and former Francis Howell Central and current Mizzou standout Shakara Jones.
Griffin is still in the process of filling out his roster for the upcoming season. He has several available scholarships and is actively pursuing players for the upcoming 2010-11 season.
