The PHL in the STL (The DVD)
Dear Basketball Fans, In December of 2007, we presented you with a once-in-a-lifetime trip down memory lane with the new basketball publication, “The PHL in the STL. The Public High League: A St. Louis Basketball Legacy. If you enjoyed the book, you are really going to love this upcoming DVD production of this special look at Public High League Basketball history. With the video expertise of my partner Travis Harder of T.J. Redbird Production, we are now able to bring the history of the Public High League to life in the form of this ground-breaking two-hour DVD. It was one thing to tell you about the history of this great league in a book, but now we can show you what the PHL was all about in this rare, never-been-done-before historical video compilation. We have been able to collect rare video footage of more than 100 former Public High greats from as far back as the 1940’s and 50’s all the way up to today’s present-day era of young basketball stars.
We have combined this great video footage with many tremendous still images to bring you one powerhouse foray into the history of one of the St. Louis area’s great basketball leagues. We will take you through nine decades of PHL basketball excellence, accompanied with the music of the times and the narration of yours truly.
Come re-live some of the great exploits of PHL greats such as the early dominance of Cleveland’s Bob Ferry and Beaumont’s Fred Kovar and Robert Koch in the 1940’s and 50’s, the explosive quickness of Beaumont’s Jimmy “Bowhead” Irving in the 60’s, the high-flying exploits of David Thirdkill and Johnny Parker in the 70’s, the ball-handling wizardry of Darryl “Pee Wee” Lenard and his Central High scoring machine of 1981, the dominance of the 1988 Vashon Wolverines and the girls basketball dynasties of Gateway Tech and Metro in recent years. We have it all in video and much, much more.
To whet you appetite of what is inside this DVD presentation, we have put together this 20-minute special preview of the “The PHL in the STL” for you view pleasure. It is now available for viewing on this website.
I hope everyone enjoys this special presentation as much as we enjoyed putting it together.
Enjoy
