Cardinal Ritter's Cameron Biedscheid selected to Sabes Invitational All-Tournament Team
Cardinal Ritter College Prep sophomore standout Cameron Biedscheid continued his fine play this spring by being selected to the All-Tournament Team at last weekend's Sabes Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. The 6'5" Biedscheid led the St. Louis Eagles to a Final Four berth in the 16U division.
It was the second consecutive week that Biedscheid has been selected to the All-Tournament team of a major tournament. He was also on the All-Tournament team at the Jayhawk Invitational after leading the Eagles to another Final Four berth.
"He's still learning, but he's made great strides," said Eagles' coach Corey Frazier.
Biedscheid had one impressive sequence of scoring during the Eagles' victory over the Minnesota Comets in the first game of the tournament. Biedscheid opened the game by scoring his team's first 18 points.
"It all happened so fast," Frazier said. "It was Cameron steal and layup, Cameron steal and dunk, Cameron with a transition 3-pointer."
During the prep season, Biedscheid was one of the major players on Ritter's 27-4 team that swept its way to the Class 3 state championship. As a freshman, Biedschied was a seldom-used 6'1" junior varsity player, who saw action in seven varsity games in 2009.
As a sophomore, he came back as a versatile 6'5" wing player who has emerged as one of the top sophomores in the state of Missouri. Biedscheid averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals as a sophomore. In Ritter's district championship victory over Brentwood, Biedscheid made his first nine field-goal attempts en route to a game-high 27 points. He was selected to the Earlaustinjr.com STL All-Star Third Team as well as my Breakthrough Player of the Year.
Biedscheid is a tough player to defend because he has the ability to get to the basket and finish strong, a solid mid-range jumper and 3-point range. He can shoot off the catch and create his own shot off the dribble. He also has some toughness to his game despite his slender frame. Cameron has been able to put those skills on full display during the spring tournaments for the Eagles, where he is starting to turn some heads around the nation. Several major NCAA Division I schools have already expressed an interest, with more soon to follow.
What I like most about Cameron is that he was not one of those kids who was hyped up beyond belief as a grade school player. He was one of those young men who just flew under the radar and kept working on his game. The current results so far have been quite impressive. Cameron Biedscheid is no longer a secret; and he is just going to get better. When this young man adds a little more strength, watch out. The Cardinal Ritter program has turned out some stellar performers over the years. Cameron Biedscheid is the latest.
You can catch Biedscheid and his St. Louis Eagles' teammates this weekend at the David Lee & Larry Hughes Spring Slam Jam at Saint Louis University.
