STL Eagles fall to Each 1 Teach 1 is AAU Super Showcase Finals
The St. Louis Eagles 17U were defeated by Each 1 Teach 1 Elite of Florida 77-60 in the championship game of the Amateur Athletic Union Super Showcase on Tuesday night in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The game was televised on ESPNU.
Each 1 Teach 1 was led by its dynamic backcourt of Austin Rivers and Trevor Lacey. Rivers, the No. 2 rated player in the nation, scored a game-high 24 points while Lacey added 22 points. Each 1 Teach 1 avenged an earlier loss to the Eagles at the Boo Williams Invitational in April.
The Eagles were led by Ben McLemore (Wellston), who scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds. McLemore provided the highlight reel play of the game with a spectacular one-handed tomahawk dunk off a baseline drive in the first half. Ben's dunk has been replayed on ESPN's programming throughout the rest of the night and well into the following day. The dunk was also the No. 1 Play of the Day on Sportcenter's Top 10 Countdown. Chaminade's Bradley Beal added 12 points, but was held to five of 18 shooting from the field by a harrassing defense by Each 1 Teach 1.
The Eagles finished the tournament with a 6-1 record. They have advanced to the championship game of three tournaments this summer. They won the Jayhawk Invitational and finished second in the EYBL Finals at the Nike Peach Jam and the Super Showcase.
Despite the loss, it was wonderful to see a group of young men represent St. Louis on national television and give our city some great national exposure for our quality basketball. That kind of exposure for our area is priceless, especially for the young players who are following them.
Well done, young men.
