The St. Louis Gameface 17U team has advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Amateur Athletic Union 17U Nationals in Orlando, Florida. Coach Roland Gray's crew is currently 5-1 heading into this evening's game against the Long Island Lightning (N.Y.)

What makes Gameface's 5-1 record at the Nationals even more impressive is that they were without their top inside player Dantiel Daniels (Wentzville Holt) for the three games of pool play and the first game and a half of bracket play. The 6'5" Daniels joined the team in Florida late in their second bracket-play victory over the Alabama Challenge.

"The kids have done a good job of battling since they've been here," Gray said. "All of the games have been close and down to the wire."

Gameface has been led by stellar guard B.J. Young (McCluer North), who has been scoring up a storm, as he has been throughout his breakthrough summer. Young is averaging more than 30 points a game, including a high of 47 points this week. Indiana University has really been working Young as one of their top recruiting targets all summer.

We will be keeping track of Gameface's progress at the AAU Nationals throughout the rest of the weekend.
