Marvin Neals picks up victory No. 600
Congratulations to Hall of Fame head coach Marvin Neals of Cardinal Ritter, who picked up his 600th career coaching victory on Wednesday night. Neals reached the magical milestone when his Lions defeated St. Mary's 84-47.
Wednesday night's victory was part of a memorable week for Neals and the Cardinal Ritter program. On Monday, the Lions defeated CBC 75-62 as senior Cameron Biedscheid scored 41 points.
On Thursday night, Cardinal Ritter edged nationally ranked Vianney 69-66 in one of the featured games of the Coaches vs. Cancer Shootout at the Scottrade Center. Biedscheid scored a game-high 26 points while sophomore guard Charles Jones scored 22 points and tied a event-record with six 3-pointers. Senior guard Ryan Hill added 17 points. Vianney which entered the game ranked No. 23 in the nation, suffered its first loss in 18 games.
Neals started his Hall of Fame career at Soldan in 1974. He led the Tigers to the Class 4A state title in 1981. He left the coaching ranks in 1990 for 10 years to become an administrator, but he returned in 2000 to take over the Cardinal Ritter program. Neals has led the Lions to three state championships and four Final Four appearances.
Congrats to Marvin Neals on the great achievement. It's a fitting honor to a great coach and a class act.
