Former SLU standout Amanda Kemezys signs professional contract in Lithuania
Congratulations to former Billikens women's standout Amanda Kemezys, who has signed a contract to play professional basketball in Lithuania. Kemezys, who is of Lithuanian descent, will play for VICI in the city of Kaunas.
"I am excited and blessed to have the opportunity to continue my basketball career overseas," Kemezys said. "I am anxious to get over there, meet my team, start playing games and get acclimated to the country and culture."
The 6'4" graduate of Belleville East High enjoyed a stellar career for the Billikens, where she finished in the Top 10 in several categories, including scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, field goal percentage and free throw percentage. Kemezys ended her career with 1,244 points, which was 10th on SLU's career list.
As a senior, Kemezys averaged 13.0 points and 9.1 rebounds a game en route to earning All-Atlantic 10 Second Team honors. She was also an Academic All-Conference and Academic All-District 7 selection for her stellar performance in the classroom.
"No player I have coached deserves an opportunity like this more than Amanda," said SLU coach Shimmy Gray-Miller. "She worked hard to finish her collegiate career on a high note."
I would like to echo Shimmy's comments regarding Amanda because the young lady has worked very hard to earn this special opportunity. Despite being a pretty good 6'4" high school player, she was largely overlooked by a lot of college recruiters. She battled injuries throughout her career, but she responded to each set back with hard work and great determination. The end result was a very productive and satisfying career; and a new professional contract.
Kudos to you AK-55.
