Bills drop tough one at New Mexico
The Billikens tasted defeat for only the second time of the season when they dropped a hard-fought 68-64 decision to New Mexico on Saturday night in Albuquerque, N.M. Both teams are now 12-2 after this hotly contested game in front of a raucous sellout crowd at "The Pit."
Senior forward Brian Conklin led the Billikens with 20 points and nine rebounds. The Billikens undoing was their lack of perimeter shooting. SLU hit only three of 18 shots from 3-point range. The Billikens entered the game shooting 41 percent from 3-point range.
SLU returns to action on Wednesday night when they visit Dayton in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both teams. The Billikens split with Dayton last season with the road team winning each game.
Dayton received some bad news this weekend when its lost 6'9" junior forward Josh Benson to a torn ACL injury in his left knee. Benson was averaging nearly 11 points a game. He was injured in the Flyers' 62-50 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday.
