Star Wars inside you

Probiotics, probiotics, probiotics:the deeper I dig into health, the more I learn about these invaluable friendly fellas. Ok, so think back to high school science class when you learned about the immune system. I always likened it to Star Wars inside me. Anyone with me? If not, hopefully you will bear with me

So probiotics are the Jedi without a doubt. They work in and for our body on a whole separate dimension, or "the force". They are found throughout your entire body: eyes, ears, nose, throat, stomach, armpits, lungs, genitals etc. Did you know that you are made up of more bacteria than human cells?

Truth: You are made of approximately 10 times more bacterial cells than human cells. (Yep, you are a walking bacteria factory.)

Truth: Your brain weighs approximately 3 lbs; a healthy person has approximately 3.5 lbs of probiotics and beneficial organisms living within them.

What's the big deal?

You have an epic battle waging inside your body: the forces of good bacteria pitted against the ever menacing evil bacteria. Probiotic means "for life". These guys are fighting for your life and everything good within you.

Probiotics work on several levels. One, they defend and fight off bad. But, they also help ensure and boost normal body function and metabolism. We could say probiotics are "nature's antibiotics". But, that would be short-changing them. They work far beyond just our immune system and providing defenses and even more than just helping you with digestion. They also ensure the health of major organs in your body. I've listed out some of their capabilities below, just briefly. Books and countless studies have been and are continuing to be written and conducted about probiotics. As such, I am just giving you some highlights. My goal is to introduce you to the major role of probiotics in your health. I'm sure more posts about these friends will show up in the future and as always, any questions, just ask or check out our forum!

What do probiotics do?

Prevent and alleviate allergies
Resolve chronic gut inflammation: Irritable bowel, Crohns, Diverticulitis etc.
Maintain balanced and healthy digestion for best absorption of nutrients and elimination of toxins
Stop obesity and resolve metabolic syndrome.
Reduce cholesterol and protect from cardiac disease
Boost fertility and correct hormonal imbalances
Provide immunity and strengthen the immune system. (In fact, they are believed to be responsible for up to 70% of our immune system responses.)
Prevent mutations, growths and other potentially harmful changes to our DNA.
Prevent and stop cancer growth

So, what now?

Are you impressed yet? I know I am. Honestly, if you are looking to be healthy, this is where I recommend my friends and family to start. Healthy bacteria means a healthy you. Without these guys on your side, you can do a whole lot of things in your wellness plan and see little effect. Adding probiotics either via supplements or fermented foods is the easiest way to fast-track your health.
