Area duo has Mules kicking
Sanijay Watts and Alex Moosman shared the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Player of the Year award in 2006 after enjoying stellar senior seasons. Watts was a high-scoring phenom at Jennings High while Moosman was a point guard deluxe at St. Francis Borgia. Together, this dynamic duo has combined to make Central Missouri State in Warrensburg one of the top NCAA Division II programs in the country. They led the Mules to the Final Four of the NCAA Division II Tournament last season and they are poised for another great postseason run this year.
Behind Watts and Moosman, the Mules are currently 19-1 and ranked No. 3 in the latest NABC/Division II national poll. The Mules are also ranked No. 1 in the South Central Region and in first place in the MIAA. They spent a couple weeks as the No. 1 team in the country in December.
The 6’4” Watts is currently averaging 22 points and 9.7 rebounds while shooting 58 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line. He is an unstoppable scorer who plays much bigger than his actual height. He was a junior college standout at Cowley County (Kan.) and State Fair Community College in Sedalia before landing in Warrensburg.
The smooth-shooting Moosman has been Central Missouri’s point guard for the past two seasons after transferring from Miami of Ohio. Moosman is currently averaging 16.2 points and four assists while hitting a robust 51 percent from 3-point range.
The Mules are coached by former University of Missouri assistant Kim Anderson.
