Kevin Lisch leads Perth to Australian League title
Former Althoff High and Saint Louis University basketball standout enjoyed quite a successful first year as a professional player. Lisch led the Perth Wildcats to the championship of the Australian NBL championship. The Wildcats defeated Wollongong in a best of three series to win their fifth NBL title.
Lisch scored a game-high 29 points to lead Perth to a 92-79 victory in the third and deciding game of the series to give the Wildcats the championship. Lisch hit five 3-pointers in the final game. He scored 55 points in the series to average better than 18 points a game. For his efforts, Lisch earned the Larry Sengstock Award for Most Valuable Player of the championship series.
In his rookie season for Perth, Lisch averaged 12.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Before becoming the hero of the championship series, Lisch enjoyed a shining moment on Feb. 10 when he hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Wildcats a dramatic road victory over their rival Townsville Crocs.
Lisch has already attracted quite a fan following in his new home down under as fans routinely cheer, “D-Lisch” at the Wildcats’ home games.
Congratulations to Kevin Lisch.
As I always used to say on the Billikens’ broadcasts when Kevin played, “The kid’s got MOXIE!!!”
